A few days later I used it again, this time with family. Wine on the table, candles lit, carafe out… give it a spin. So fun — you instantly have everyone’s attention. You could see everyone pause for a moment, simply because it looks so beautiful. That circular motion is almost calming! And you really notice a difference in aroma (okay, to be fair, we did open a very good bottle). First that slightly closed scent of a freshly opened wine, and a minute later it’s much fuller and fruitier. It’s like there’s suddenly more happening in your glass. It almost feels like you’re sitting in a fine-dining restaurant or wine bar. So fun!

So this is the swirling carafe. It looks super fancy! You give it a spin, sot hat oxygen gets with the wine. It works, and it is super nice for on the table. Seb had entertainment for hours because he was only staring at it. Amazing! Give it a spin!

Aesthetic and functional, this decanter allows you to aerate your wine in an elegant and fun way. A slight push will swirl the carafe allowing the wine to oxygenate. The carafe stand is unique and functions like a turntable. It is designed in a beautiful quality of cork which gives it a warm appearance. The tray cavity keeps the carafe securely in place. Thanks to its mechanism, the wine will not only rotate but also roll, allowing better oxygenation. Add an extra dimension to the pleasure of tasting.

This week I took the test by opening a Chateau Montus 2001 from the Madiran wine region. The first glass was poured with the Vacu Vin Slow Pourer. This ensures that the wine does not come in contact with extra oxygen during pouring. As you can see, this system has a nozzle that you insert all the way to the bottom of the glass. Linked to this is a stainless steel pin that guides air to the bottom of the bottle without aerating. The result was really stunning. The wine poured with the Slow Pourer kept its primary fruit aromas much better than the wine poured with the Wine Aerator. The aromas where also more connected to each other.

The second glass of wine was poured using the Wine Aerator. This tool ensures that extra oxygen is added during pouring. You can easily put it on the bottle neck and rinse it under the tap just like the Slow Pourer. The result was really stunning. The wine poured with the Slow Pourer kept its primary fruit aromas much better than the wine poured with the Wine Aerator. The aromas where also more connected to each other. My conclusion is therefore this one. For wines that have been in the cellar for a long time, for example an old Bordeaux or Barolo I would definitely use the Slow Pourer. For young wines or wines with many tannins I would use the Wine Aerator as it makes the wine softer.

We did open a nice 2014 E16 Pinot to try it out on. This Pinot is pretty delicate and I think the flavor was just slightly richer and smoother based on all the other times I have had this wine. It is not really a wine that needs to be decanted or aerated, so we thought it would be fun to try it out on this wine. I do like the pour. There is no drippage or spillage when pouring from this device. I did not have to wipe down my bottle after the pour nor be careful of any spillage on granite countertops. Easy to use, easy to clean. I will experiment some more once I open an older wine, but overall, this is a decent pourer and as a wine enthusiast, I'm glad I have it.
