I've only had basic wine stoppers before, but I've been wanting something like this vacuum stopper for a while. It helps to remove the oxygen so the wine stays fresher longer. This item is easy to use and works as expected. It comes with directions that are easy to follow. For example, it tells you how many times to pump the vacuum based on how full the wine bottle is. It also explains how to easily reduce the suction and remove the stopper when you want to drink more of your chosen wine. It's also a sustainable option-- it's made from mostly recycled plastic. Very happy with the product.

A great gift for the wine lover in your life! This is the perfect gift for the wine loving person (or people) who have everything they need - because they didn't know they needed one. My parents are just these people- and are very difficult to buy gifts for. I usually opt for a nice bottle of wine and a restaurant gift certificate, but I wanted to get them something different this year. I've used the vacuvin system before while bartending at a fine dining Italian restaurant, and thought my parents would appreciate it. We have been using Vacu Vin wine savers for many years now. We enjoy good wine, but never finish a bottle in one or two sittings. The Vacu Vin has allowed us to enjoy wines longer, and never waste an open bottle. We have a couple different versions, and have given some as gifts to friends and family who are wine lovers. To their credit, the company continues to innovate. The biggest innovation with this model is that it is made from 98% recycled plastic. It works very well, and is compatible with the original stoppers. It's also nice to see other color options than black. The tradeoff is price: to be more environmentally responsible means this cost a bit more than the classic version. The photos compare the two models.

This is a very cleaver design that actually does keep wine fresh. It’s very easy to use. You use the device to pump the air out of the bottle. This keeps the wine fresh. It comes with very simple directions that are easy to do. The wine saver is a made from recycled materials. It’s well made.

There are cheaper and better options to save your wine

The main goal in keeping wine "leftovers" is to prevent the wine from aging between the time you open the bottle and when you finish the remaining wine. Air destroys wine, so you need to minimize the air contacat. You also have to keep the wine in the fridge during this time, because 55F is a 'normal aging temperature' and since the air is already aging the wine, you want to minimize *any* other degrading that might go on. Any temperature over 55F will simply make things worse.The vacu-vin attempts to help by sucking the air out of a half-empty bottle of wine. Note that, instead of the few pumps their literature suggests, you need about 15 pumps to get most of the air out. For many wine types the fact that you are in essence lowering the pressure in the bottle pulls the 'liveliness' out of the wine, which ruins it.I have done a series of tests for my website comparing both a red and white after 3 days, being stored under a variety of circumstances. The vacu-vin "works" in the sense that it does remove most of the air. However, it was also found to greatly harm some wines - even when you compare its use against a simple cork.The *ideal* method of saving wine is cheap. Simply put the wine into a smaller glass bottle, cork it, and put it in the fridge. That has the best chance to keep the most common wines for another few days in the best condition. No air at all, no vacuum either. Of course, *no* method will really keep a wine in the same state it started in. You can always cook with the wine on the second day, and move along to your next bottle!Life is too short to drink bad or old wine :)

Each time I used this it never SAVED the wine…it did seem to vacuum, but then when I went to drink the wine…it didn’t work.I have used wine savers before, so I was using it right. Oh well -Alice

Saves the life of opened wine

Had to replace some older corks that didn’t seal well. Pumping your wine will give it additional life without oxygenating for another 24-48 hours.
